The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for extreme heat on Sunday 17 July and a red warning for extreme heat for Monday 18 and Tuesday 9 July.
The Met Office warn of population-wide adverse health effects, not limited to those most vulnerable to extreme heat, leading to serious illness or danger to life. They also warn of delays on roads and road closures, along with delays and cancellation to rail and air travel, with significant welfare issues for those who experience even moderate delays.
Temperatures are expected to reduce across Wednesday and Thursday.
